11 year Old Boy Has Brain Tumor and Needs Help

Dear Friends

We recently heard about a local family that could use the helping hand of our amazing community. Some community members have already stepped up to help and through our HK C.A.R.E.S program we are providing you with an opportunity to help as well. Here is their story…

The Angelo’s are an involved local family with triplets…Kohl, Austin and Branden. The boys are 11 years old. They attended Marshall/Jefferson and just moved to MMS this year. All the boys play soccer and Peter, their dad, has been a coach for a number of years. They are a happy, fun-loving family.

Sadly, Kohl has a rare brain tumor. The actual diagnosis is “D. I. P. G.”, which stands for Diffuse Intrinsic Pons Glioma. He will be at St. Jude’s in Memphis undergoing treatment until mid-January. His mom, Kelly, is there with him while he participates in a clinical trial.

Peter and Kelly Angelo are both self-employed in the fashion industry. They rely on their excellent reputations to get jobs. When they don’t work, there is no income. Since Kelly is down with Kohl at St Jude’s, she is unable to work. To make matters worse, their health insurance coverage is not covering any of the treatments to date. While we don’t know how the hospital and insurance company will work this out, we do know that currently expenses are mounting quickly. Treatment is expensive. Peter and Kelly are in need of our community’s help. Imagine dealing with insurance/financial pressures while you watch your brave son fight for his life.

How can you help? When you donate to the HK C.A.R.E.S program HK Community Fund will match all contributions dollar for dollar up to $5,000. You can donate online at http://www.hkcommunityfund.org (please select the large red “Donate” link and then select the HK CARE donate button) . As HKCF is a 501(c)(3) public charity your donation is tax deductible (as always, check with a tax professional to confirm proper tax treatment). HKCF will then donate your contribution and a matching amount to the Angelo family.

Kohl’s story is here on Caring Bridge…

We understand that times are tough and even giving a small donation can be a challenge. However please consider making whatever donation you can afford to help one of our neighbors.

Thank you.

If you don’t want to donate online, please either send a check payable to HK Community Fund to 515 Valley St, Suite 130 in Maplewood or stop by Bunny’s in S.O and drop some coin in the donate jar (thanks Leslie, monster and the Bunny crew)
