Affiliate Program Tutorial #1 : Follow The Rules
Today we’re starting a series on how you can make money using affiliate programs. But before we get to the really good stuff we have to set a foundation of basics. Today I am giving you one of the most important tips that most people skip. When you sign up to promote a product/website make sure you read the rules.
If you don’t read the rules there is a good chance that you will get suspended & all that hard earned money will be forfeited. Seriously, most companies don’t fool around when it comes to their affiliate programs. So read the rules when you sign up. Here are a few of the things that are a no go at most affiliate programs.
- Using a domain with the name of the site your promoting. That’s a no-go. They HAVE to protect their trademarks or they could lose them.
- Unseemly website content. Think about this for a second. If you have a website featuring illegal things why would a reputable company want to be affiliated with you? They won’t.
- Use of Logo & Trademarks. Some companies will allow you to use their logos & trademarks to promote them. Most won’t though & the ones that do have very specific rules.
- Competing with the company you’re an affiliate of in search terms. Don’t do it. Most rightfully so don’t allow it because they are trying to buy the search terms & why would they want a partner that’s working against them?
Remember when you’re an affiliate of a website or product you have to treat them as if they are a partner. You want to do what’s best for them so that you can continue to earn money. Keep up a good relationship & you can usually work out a private deal to promote them for a much higher percentage.
So closing out the first post of this new series. I just want to reiterate FOLLOW THE RULES. They are there for a reason & don’t let your hard work go to waste.
This series is meant for the beginner. It will be every Tuesday & Thursday. As the series goes on it will eventually cover intermediate & advanced affiliate marketing tips.
