Yup, AIRBNB should be shut down while we’re in such a huge housing crisis or at least heavily regulated. As peoples rents skyrocket & housing gets harder to find AIRBNB has become a huge problem. I love the idea of AIRBNB but the reality is it’s not sustainable because of how much it hurts the housing markets across the country/world.
I’m mainly talking about the whole house/condo rentals. Where people & LLCs buy up lots of real estate and turn them into AIRBNBs. I don’t have an issue with renting out a room in your place from time to time. Especially if you’re in a college town and it’s off season. But whole houses when there is such a housing crisis? Yeah, No thank you capitalists. I’m from just west of Boston, MA where there is a huge housing crisis. I mean like really really bad. Between all the tech jobs, healthcare jobs, & colleges housing is at a premium. One thing bad about the Boston are & pretty much everywhere they refuse to put in affordable housing. It’s all luxury townhouses & condos. Here is all the AirBNB full house or condo listings in the Boston area. 300+ in this small Area of Massachusetts alone. You telling me that’s not a drain on the housing market? That it’s not driving prices up?
We don’t need any more of that in this country until we have a system in place to make sure there is fair housing for everyone. If we had the will to help people over the will to make a quick buck we wouldn’t have a major homeless problem in this country. AirBNB is not the only one that does this of course but they are the most well known. This is a major problem. Maybe a scale so that in housing crisis areas they can’t operate. Put people instead of greed first. Oh & limit the amount of homes that 1 business or person can own. That would fix a lot of problems and well more on that soon as this is just a start to the series of posts about how capitalism shouldn’t take priority over what’s best for the people as a whole.
